The musical project "Miss Havisham" for the Grimeborn Festival 2019 is a fusing of two – American - music dramas for soprano and piano: Miss Havisham's Wedding Night by Dominic Argento, and Aaron Copland's song-cycleTwelve Poems by Emily Dickinson. Combined, they become a kind of labyrinthine gender study, with both figures characterised by their nightmarish relations to the other sex - and each a mirror of the other. Soprano Sarah Minns embodies both Dickens' frenzied and passionate Miss Havisham (from Great Expectations) and the personality of the tortured yet life-affirming poet Emily Dickinson.
